Ransomware Protection
Ransomware protection that keeps your data out of attackers’ hands
Ransomware can lock every file your business depends on in minutes and leave you facing a ransom demand. We combine prevention, round-the-clock detection and tested backups, so attacks can be caught early and you have a tested way to recover.
- Phishing and malicious attachment filtering
- Behaviour-based detection on every device
- Multi-factor authentication on all accounts
- Immutable, off-site backups
- A tested incident response and recovery plan
Anatomy of an attack
How ransomware attacks unfold, and where we stop them
Ransomware rarely happens in a single step. Every stage is a chance to catch it.
- 01
Getting in
Usually a phishing email or stolen password. Email filtering, MFA and staff training shut this door.
- 02
Spreading
Attackers move between computers looking for valuable data. Patching and network segmentation slow them down.
- 03
Encrypting
Files start being locked. Behaviour-based detection spots the activity and isolates the device.
- 04
Recovering
If the worst happens, clean, immutable backups let us restore your data without paying a ransom.
Prevention, detection and recovery
Real ransomware resilience needs all three. Leave one out and you’re relying on luck.
Prevent
Email security, MFA, patching, firewall protection and security awareness training make you a much harder target.
Detect
Managed detection and response watches for ransomware behaviour 24/7 and contains threats quickly.
Recover
Encrypted, immutable backups and a written recovery plan get your business running again on your terms.
Your last line of defence
Attackers go after your backups first
Modern ransomware groups know that good backups ruin their business model, so they hunt for backups and try to delete or encrypt them before launching the main attack. Backups stored on the same network, or protected by the same passwords, are often the first casualty.
We protect your backups with immutability, which means backup copies can’t be changed or deleted for a set period, even by someone with administrator access. Copies are stored off-site and restores are tested regularly. Learn more about our backup and disaster recovery service.

Is your business ransomware-ready?
If you can’t confidently tick every box below, it’s time for a conversation. For a deeper dive, read our ransomware protection checklist.
- Multi-factor authentication is on for every account
- Operating systems and apps are patched promptly
- Every device has behaviour-based endpoint protection
- Staff can recognize and report phishing emails
- Remote access isn’t exposed directly to the internet
- Backups are off-site, immutable and tested
- Admin accounts are separate from everyday logins
- You have a written plan for what to do during an attack
Think you’ve been hit by ransomware?
Disconnect affected computers from the network, don’t pay or reply to the attackers and contact us right away. The faster you act, the more we can protect.
Frequently asked questions
Should we pay the ransom?
Law enforcement and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security discourage paying. Payment doesn’t guarantee you’ll get your data back, and it can make you a target for repeat attacks. Good backups and a recovery plan give you a better option.
Can ransomware encrypt OneDrive or SharePoint files?
Yes. Files synced to the cloud can be encrypted along with local copies. Version history helps, but it isn’t a full backup, which is why we add separate, protected backups of your Microsoft 365 data.
How quickly can we recover after an attack?
It depends on what was affected and how your backups are set up. Before anything happens, we agree on recovery targets for your critical systems and design your backups to meet them.
Is cyber insurance enough protection?
Insurance helps cover costs, but it won’t restore your systems or your reputation. Many insurers now expect safeguards such as MFA, endpoint detection and tested backups before they’ll offer or renew coverage.
What is an immutable backup?
An immutable backup is a copy that can’t be altered or deleted for a set retention period, even by an administrator. That means ransomware, or an attacker with stolen credentials, can’t destroy it.
